Sourcing School: Boolean vs Sourcing Tools

This is gonna be a fun one today! We’re talking boolean search vs sourcing tools. Which one wins the day? Last week we went over the skills that can make a “good” recruiter GREAT. If you missed it, check it out!

Which do we prefer?

Brian prefers boolean, writing his strings out long-form, getting the sub 30 search terms. He actually enjoys writing them too. He thinks writing the string is better but certain tools can save people time.

Meanwhile, Ryan is on both sides of the fence. Boolean gives great results. BUT he also likes the use of tools. That said, some tools are better than others…they are also much better now than they used to be.

Brian’s Top 3 tools for your tech stack (besides a phone, email, and web browser):

  • Zapinfo to correlate people into projects, use as a list builder.
  • Seekout is a great repository because it mashes together the people finder ability and social aggregator. It also puts together the email cadence for reaching out with some really smart templates.
  • Swordfish just because it’s The Best at finding contact information.

Tune in, and let us know which side you’re on!
